Interestingly enough, the Metaphysical Poets were not known by that name in their time, nor were they considered a group. Their works are characterized by the connection of two unlike things. Religion is a very prominent theme within their works. These works tend to contain many literary devices. Metaphysical works were most popular from 1930-1950, when they were brought into the public eye and grouped together by T.S. Eliot.
